New N900 and my plan to sync with Kontact

I have a new toy – a Nokia N900 cell phone. It is a nice gadget. But I miss a easy way to synchronize my contacts, calendars, tasks etc. with KDE’s Kontact.

N900 <-> USB/WLAN <-> Laptop/Kontact

Yesterday I ask for a solution to synchronize (at freenode#kontact). The answers are more or less: Setting up a Groupware-Solution (e.g. Horde) – sync the phone with this server – sync Kontact with the server.

But I think there must be easier solution for “normal” users without setting up such a server. And now I have a new long-term pet project.

I found a few tools that I could possibly use (The list is not exhaustive.):

SyncEvolution (N900/Maemo side)
the build-in synchronization – ? (N900)
Akonadi SyncML Agent (Kontact side)

But at first I have to bootstrap my C++, Qt and KDE-programming knowledge. My plan is to help kde-pim a little bit to become familiar with the whole environment. At the moment I’m setting up a KDE development environment. It runs in a VM. If I have more experience, I will run it directly on my gentoo os.

So, qt-copy is compiling…

Btw. I finished the go-lang tutorial. I like the language. But at the moment I have no project to use it.

Nokia 6110 Navigator und SDHC

Es funktioniert. Das Nokia 6110 Navigator läuft bei mir auch mit einer 4GB mirco-SDHC Karte. In der Beschreibung zu diesem Handy steht, dass es nur mit SD-Karten bis 2GB funktioniert. Es läuft aber wunderbar und ich habe jetzt viel viel Platz.

Nokia und Trolltech

das grosse Unternehmen Opensource-Firmen kaufen ist in Mode. Erst kauft SUN MySQL und nun möchte Nokia gern Trolltech haben. Den kauf von SUN finde ich gut, denn SUN hat sich zu Open Source gekannt und bietet Java nun auch mit Open Source Lizenzen an. Mein neues Nokia 6110 (habe ich seit letzter Woche) kommt aber nur mir M$-Software zum Synchronisieren daher…

Nokia könnte aus Qt und KDE eine grosse Sache machen. Das würde mich sehr freuen. Ich bin sehr gespannt wie sich das entwickelt. Die Aussicht das ich mein Handy direkt mit KDE PIM synchronisiere gefällt mir.

Neuer Router (WRT54GL)

wir haben jetzt zu Hause einen neuen Router: einen WRT54GL (das L am Ende finde ich wichtig). Gestern habe ich auf der Kiste dd-wrt installiert.

Ich kann jedem diese Kombination nur wärmstens ans Herz legen – ich bin jedenfalls begeistert. Das Gerät läuft leise (kein Pfeifen – gell Beat ) und die Software ist top. Kann gar nicht verstehen, dass nicht jeder Routerhersteller seine Geräte so offen hält, dass jeder das installieren kann, was er will. Für mich jedenfalls war die Offenheit dieser Hardware das Kaufargument für den Router von Linksys.
